APRIL — direct sowing and planting but watch out for a late frost.

Fruit & Veg  Plenty of veg to sow in April, including brussel spouts, broccoli, peas and cabbage. Fruit Trees will be covered in beautiful blossom but water them well and often as they are very thirsty.

Flowers Time to start off your hanging baskets if you want to add colour to a boring wall ( although I despise them as they are such a lot of hard work with constant watering!)

In the greenhouse  Depending on the temperatures you could be putting newspaper up on your glass to keep out the hot sun or adding extra heat to protect your tender pelargoniums and tropical plants from a rogue frost!

Trees and shrubs  Mulch around your shrubs with 6—7 cms of organic matter to retain moisture and control weeds. The azaleas, rhododendrons and camellias love moisture to produce great flowers. Oh and add some oxygenating plants to your pond if it gets too green from algae growth.
